What amazes me about this is not the fact that it is fried chik’n in a can, not the fact that someone not only invented this but people buy the stuff! But the simple fact that it clearly says on the side of the can “With Gravy!” Since when did fried chicken go with gravy?!?

9 – No Scot would eat this!

Having tried both real haggis and a tin of this stuff I know that the canned haggis food does come close to the taste of a haggis, but to good enough. But for anyone who lives too far away from Scotland to try the 100% genuine thing this might well do the trick.

These amazing concept designed dumbbells by designers Emron Jackson Henry and Professor Bryan Howell offers the idea of a built-in re-coil system. Called the “ReCoil” it is a workout system where the dumbbells act with resistant bands. Sure it is a slightly weird idea, but they do look amazing none the less.

8 – CD Workout (CONCEPT)

This is basically the same idea as number (10) but taken to a whole new level! You see the idea is that one or two CD/DVDS/BLU-RAY disks don’t weight a lot, but lots of them really do! (imagine the weight of 2 cd spindles!) so this takes that idea and makes it modern in both idea and looks.

These Bodymax dumbbells do the job of replacing 15 sets of weights! You just turn the dial and it will automatically change your resistance from 2 kg (5 lbs) all the way up to 24 kg (52.5 lbs) of weight! This is most probably the future of dumbbells, but sadly a little expensive for my needs.

6 – Magnetic Attraction (CONCEPT)

These Magnetic dumbbells come via a pair, (North Pole {NP} charged) comes with a cradle and South Pole (SP) pointer magnets. The idea is that when you need to add weight you just increasing the magnetic power of attraction between the SP pointers and the NP Dumbbells! Sounds simple but I suspect they are rather complicated to make.

5 – The Pasta Strainer (£120.00)

With amazing function and utilitarian design these are what happens when a designer makes a set of dumbbells, but I think it ends with rather amazing results! Designed by Henriette Melchiorsen they have an almost beautiful modern sculpture look about them, too expensive for my tastes, but simple amazing to look at none the less.

4 – Crystal Workout (CONCEPT)

The problem with the basic design of dumbbells is that they have to be heavy and that is the reason most of them are made of metals! But what about other heavy materials like crystal! That is where designer Alex Undall comes into it because he come up with a concept that uses dense crystal instead of metals with rather amazing results!

3 – The Poaa Effect (£550)

It seems that once again a designer (Philippe Starck) has tried to re-design the dumbbell and yet again we are left with something that does indeed look amazing. But I have to ask myself if they are really exercise equipment or just art! Maybe it is a touch of both!
